Car Insurance Pontiac (Car Insurance). Almost hit a pedestrian :(?Almost hit a pedestrian :(? I was driving my nephew to his middle school like I do every morning, but when I went today, it was later than usual and there were more cars this time. I was waiting to pull into the school drive way, giving the left lane priority, like the law requires, but a man in the left lane stopped and mentioned for me to go. I looked to secure my turn - everything was clear or so it seemed, but as I turned a middle school girl came in front of car and jumped back! I didn't hit her, I managed to break JUST in time, inches away, thank heavens. She kept walking so I got my nephew out of the car and pulled up along side her and asked if she was okay, she nodded her head yes and then asked if she could cross the street in front of me, which of course I let her. I feel so terrible, and its been the worst morning. My sister is terribly ill and she asked me to help with her 4 children, so I have a lot on my mind, and I feel partially responsible because my mind was on getting to my sister and her newborn. I'm relieved I didn't hit her, but my conscious is killing me for not being more careful. My question is should I have called the police and reported it? I didn't hit her, but in today's day and age people file lawsuits like a shoe store sells shoes and I can not afford that right now. Any advice on this matter or tips on how to deal with it? Fact is, you missed her. Take it as a lesson learned - always slow right down when cars are blocking pedestrian's view down the road, since she jumped back she noticed a car was coming, which she may not have seen from standing behind a stationary car, always be aware of any pedestrians crossing or looking as if they will cross. All you need to do is relax and just be glad you didn't hurt anyone. It wasn't your fault, just be sure to pay attention and be safe out there :) You really shouldnt worry! your only human... just because you got wavied by someone else you still should be more caferful now why would you repor to the police -there was no accident Auto parts : Battery Additive Acura 1995 . Pontiac . How to Calculate Speed Based on Gear RatiosGear ratio can have a profound effect on how your vehicle performs. Moving to a higher (numerically lower) ratio can improve your freeway mileage because your engine is turning fewer RPMs, but the tradeoff is that the vehicle will not accelerate as quickly because fewer engine revolutions are being applied to the rear wheels. The flip side is that a lower (numerically higher) ratio will improve your acceleration at the expense of mileage because the engine is turning faster for any given speed. As with all things mechanical and measurable, you can calculate these variables with a formula. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Measuring tape CalculatorSuggest EditsItem AddWhy is it necessary?Done Step by Step : 1 Park your vehicle on a level, firm surface and set the parking brake. 2 Use a measuring tape to determine how tall your tire is. This is the outside diameter of the tire. Write this figure down. 3 Write down the gear ratio you want to calculate for, for instance, "3.73." Determine the final drive ratio. This is the output ratio of the transmission multiplied by the gear ratio. For instance, a normal four-speed transmission has an output ratio of "1-to-1" (written 1:1) in fourth gear. This means that for every one engine revolution, the output shaft on the transmission turns once. A common five-speed final ratio is .80:1. This means the engine is turning eight-tenths of a revolution for one turn of the transmission. This is called an "overdrive" ratio. Using 3.73 as our example, you would have "3.73 X 1 = 3.73" for the four-speed and "3.73 X .8 = 2.98" for the five-speed. 4 Write down the engine RPM you want to calculate the MPH value for. For instance, you want to know how fast you will be going at 2,000 RPM with a certain gear ratio. You will enter this number in the formula in the next step. You can choose any RPM value that you want, but 2,000 RPM is used in the example below. You will be able to calculate the MPH for any RPM and gear ratio by changing those values. 5 Enter the above figures into a calculator in the following manner: (RPM x Tire Diameter)/(Final Drive Ratio x 336) = MPH. The number "336" is the "constant" and is part of the formula. Here is an example of the formula for a four-speed transmission at 2,000 RPM, with 26-inch tires and a final drive of 3.73: (2,000 x 26)/(3.73 x 336) = 52,000 divided by 1,253.28 = 41.49 MPH. With a .8 overdrive five-speed, the answer would be 51.93 MPH. Tips & Warnings Here are the formulas for related calculations: Gear Ratio = (RPM x Tire Diameter)/(MPH x 336) RPM = (MPH x Gear Ratio x 336)/Tire Diameter Tire Diameter = (MPH x Gear Ratio x 336)/RPM Suggest item Thanks for suggesting an item. Pontiac . How to Tell What Gearing Axles Are on My Jeep Wrangler XYou can quickly identify what gearing is installed in the axles of you Jeep Wrangler X very quickly. Every axle has a tag on the cover. This tells where it was built, the model of the axle and the gear ratio. You may need to identify the gear ratio for several reasons. However, when installing lockers inside the axles, you will need to know the exact gear to purchase the correct locker. Difficulty:Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Wiping cloth Flashlight Step by Step : 1 Crawl under your jeep so that you can view the differential cover of the axle. The differential is the center section on the axle. It is shaped like a pumpkin. The differential cover is held on the axle with bolts. 2 Find the metal strap on the axle between the differential bolts. Clean the tag with a wiping cloth to eliminate the grease. 3 Look at the metal strap with a flashlight to identify the gearing. It is labeled on the tag as gear ratio. *Use your tire gauge to check the air pressure in the tire and see how much it's changed so that you can add the same amount of air that the tire lacked before you drove it to the station. The pressure will have increased because driving causes the tires to heat up and the air inside them to expand. 4. Use the air hose to add air in short bursts, checking the pressure each time with your tire gauge. The gauges on many station air hoses are inaccurate; that's why you should use your own gauge to ensure proper inflation. 5. If you add too much air, let some out by pressing the pin on the tire valve with the back of the air hose nozzle or with the little knob on the back of the rounded end of the tire gauge. 902

Rotating your tires People have differing points of view on tire rotation. Some say that you can get up to 20 percent more wear if you rotate your tires. Others caution against rotating them because rotation may hide the distinctive tread-wear patterns that provide the clues to poor alignment, worn shock absorbers, and defective brakes found in the "Checking your tires for wear" section, later in this chapter. If your tires seem to be wearing evenly and you haven't had any of these problems, then it's a good idea to rotate them — but check them first for signs of problems that may have arisen since the last time they were rotated. A1Q Part l": Keeping Your Car in Good Condition, System by System For uniform tire wear, the tires on most vehicles should be rotated approximately every 6,000 miles, unless they show the signs of irregular wear in Table 19-1 and Figure 19-8, later in this chapter. There are a few other exceptions to this rule: Vehicles that have larger wheels and tires in the rear and vehicles that have different wheels front to back can't participate in tire rotation. And if you have unidirectional tires or tires with asymmetric tread designs, you can't rotate them in the patterns shown in Figure 19-3. Pontiac . What are the different sizes of tire that would work for a 2006 ford fusion?
* When you rotate tires, you simply move each tire from one wheel to another; for example, one configuration is to move the rear tires forward and the for ward tires to the opposite rear locations (see Figure 19-3). However, where you move the tires depends on the type of tires and vehicle you have. To find out where to move the tires on your vehicle, consult your owner's manual (usually, you'll see a diagram showing how the tires should be moved), call the tire manufacturer, or ask the dealership. Of course, you can always take your vehicle to a service facility and have them rotate the tires for you. Front-wheel drive Rear-wheel drive Figure 19-3: Pontiac . * How to rotate your tires. Four-wheel drive Alternate Many shops include free tire rotation and wheel balancing in oil-change and other special service promotions, and most tire dealers include periodic tire rotation and wheel balancing in their warranties. (I explain what wheel balancing is in the next section.) The tires on the front and rear wheels may require different air pressures. After the tires are rotated, remember to adjust the air pressure on each tire to whatever is indicated on the tire decal on your vehicle or in your owner's manual. .Chapter 19: Checking Your Tires, Alignment, and Steering All ^ vo u nav e a matching, full-sized spare, you can include it in the rotation process by starting it out in the right rear position and using the tire that would have been moved to the right rear as the spare tire until the next rotation. Do not include a "Temporary Use Only" spare tire (those teeny little ones) in any rotation pattern. (But you knew that, right?) Balancing your wheels Wheel balancing does a lot to eliminate some of the principal causes of tire wear. And an unbalanced wheel and tire can create an annoying vibration on smooth roads. Because balancing is a job that should be done with the proper equipment, and because that equipment is costly, while balancing is generally cheap, go to a service facility or tire store and have them do the job for you. Just remember that there are two kinds of wheel balancing: static and dynamic. 0 Static balancing deals with the even distribution of weight around the Pontiac . What city makes the most cars?
* axle. You can tell that you need to have your wheels statically balanced if a wheel (or more than one wheel) tends to rotate by itself when the car is jacked up. It rotates because one part of the wheel is heavier than the rest. To correct this problem, a technician finds the heavy spot and applies tire weights to the opposite side of the heavy spot to balance it out. * Dynamic balancing deals with the even distribution of weight along the spindle. Wheels that aren't balanced dynamically tend to wobble and wear more quickly. Because imbalance can be detected only when the tire is rotated and centrifugal force can act, correcting dynamic balance is a relatively complex procedure. Some service stations have computerized Pontiac . Is a 1999 plymount a good car?
